Radio 1 RPH, Canberra's Radio Reading Service, will broadcast the reflections of the former Governor-General, the Honourable General Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (ret) on 7 August 2019.
Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove have been strong supporters of Radio 1RPH and the other members of the National RPH Network during his service as Governor-General.
Sir Peter read to Radio 1RPH's audiences in Canberra, Wagga Wagga and Junee three times a year and visited and read at least once on RPH stations in other capital cities.
In addition, Sir Peter recorded Christmas Day and Remembrance Day messages for the RPH stations.
'I was always pleased to support Radio 1RPH and the RPH stations. I have fond memories of growing up with radio and radio still means a lot to me,' Sir Peter said.
'I believe radio has an important role even in this age of social media and digital options because it is a very personal form of human communication.
'RPH radio reading services are a wonderful example of how combining the medium of radio with the skills of volunteers can brighten the lives of so many people by bringing to them information and entertainment in form which is enjoyable and accessible for them.'
Radio 1RPH President Sandra Purser said: 'Radio 1RPH is privileged that General Sir Peter Cosgrove has recorded his reflections with us for our listeners.
'We are also very appreciative of the support which he and Lady Cosgrove have given Radio 1RPH during their time as Governor General.'
The program will go to air on 7 August 2019 at 1.30pm and will be repeated on 9 August 2019 at 1.30pm. It can be heard in Canberra on 1125 on the AM band, in Wagga Wagga on 89.5 FM and in Junee on 99.5 FM.
